As far back as I can remember, I’ve always had a sneaking suspicion that we humans are greater than we seem.
I began studying psychology formally in high school. Other than typing it remains the only subject I can actually remember. I was instantly hooked and decided to continue with my studies at the University of Vermont, where I graduated with a BA in psychology.
After college, I went to live in Thailand for a few years where I was introduced to Buddhist psychology, adding more complexity and richness to my understanding of the human experience.
This led me to Naropa University, where I began the journey inward, at the same time honing the skills to guide others in their journeys as well. I’ve since worked in residential treatment, juvenile detention, and child welfare settings. Most recently I helped to manage a multi-agency partnership working to improve the well-being of Boulder County families.
Since 2009 I have been guiding kids, adolescents, and adults through their change process. From Maine to Alaska, Texas to East St Louis, and everywhere in between. In prisons and hotels, therapy offices and social service departments, I have been teaching, training, supervising and coaching professionals to get clear on where they want to go, and then to create a path towards that destination.
Along the way I started a family and have found fatherhood to be the single most important role I play. My kids and wife teach me how amazing life can be, help me to grow, and remind me to enjoy the ride. When I’m not driving my kiddos to gymnastics, martial arts, and drum lessons; I love to travel, run, read, write, and play guitar.
My purpose in life is to deepen my understanding of the human experience and help others do the same. What’s yours?
